A research fellowship is available at AIDFM – Associação para Investigação e Desenvolvimento da Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa in the framework of the project “PHYSIOMATH – Mathematical and Computational Modeling of Human Physiology” EXCL/MAT-NAN/0114/2012. This position is funded by FCT, the Portuguese Science Foundation, and the Portuguese Ministry for Education and Science (MEC) through PIDDAC.

Research will be focused on 1) mathematical modeling of baroreflex and chemoreflex with applications to acute myocardial infarction, 2) computational modeling of the aortic insufficiency. Selected candidates must have obtained a university degree (3 years minimum) in Bioengineering or Biotechnology with a strong knowledge of physiology, mathematical modeling and numerical methods. Good programming skills are also required.

The position is available for 9 months and the monthly stipend is 745 €. There are no teaching duties associated to this position.

Two research fellowships in mathematical modeling in biomedicine is available at CEMAT-- Center for Mathematics and its Applications, IST (Lisbon, Portugal), in the framework of the project “PHYSIOMATH – Mathematical and Computational Modeling of Human Physiology” EXCL/MAT-NAN/0114/2012. These positions are funded by FCT, the Portuguese Science Foundation, and the Portuguese Ministry for Education and Science (MEC) through PIDDAC. The successful candidates will interact with national and international collaborators, and will be part of an integrated team led by Prof. Adélia Sequeira.

Research will be focused on the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of inflammatory processes. Selected candidates must have obtained:

I. their MSc degree in Mathematics or Biomedical Engineering.

This fellowship covers 12 months and the monthly stipend is 980 €.

II. their first university degree (3 years minimum) in Mathematics or Biomedical Engineering.

This fellowship covers 12 months and can be renewed for more 12 months. The monthly stipend is 745 €.

There are no teaching duties associated to these positions.

Two postdoc positions are available at CEMAT- Center for Mathematics and its Applications, IST (Lisbon, Portugal), in the framework of the project “PHYSIOMATH – Mathematical and Computational Modeling of Human Physiology” EXCL/MAT-NAN/0114/2012. This position is funded by FCT, the Portuguese Science Foundation, and the Portuguese Ministry for Education and Science (MEC) through PIDDAC. The successful candidate will interact with national and international collaborators, and will be part of an integrated team led by Prof. Adélia Sequeira.

Research will be focused on the topics of the PHYSIOMATH project, namely on the mathematical and computational modeling of atherosclerosis and inflammation and on cerebral aneurysm progression.

Suitable candidates should hold a PhD in applied mathematics, physics, or engineering, with a strong background in computational mechanics, biomechanical problems and numerical methods (e.g. finite elements). Excellent programming skills are required and experience in biomedical research is highly desired.

The positions are initially available for one year. One of them can be extended for two years. There are no teaching duties associated to these positions.

The monthly stipend is 1495 €.
